... Welcome to Rutgers's Guide to Idlepimps (Pt. 2) ...

First builds:

Pre-Build Info:

First thing you should do is sell your thug and buy some condoms and crack (weed, beer, and AK's are optional and not as important at this point). Usually pimps do not build on their first 250 turns. It is not enough to get you anywhere far, and being on top of the rankings on the first day (without any extra turns) is not even worth striving for. Building with stolen hoes and only 250 turns will usually result in you dying shortly. Turn a few tricks and make sure you have some weed, beer, and AKs in case you get attacked. One thing to do is to sell some of the thugs you recruited to buy supplies. Now, since I started playing idle there have been two types of turn allocation: 5 turns every 10 minutes (taking 33.3 hours to get max turns) and 7 turns every 10 minutes (24 hour max). Depending on what the amount is in your current round, estimate the amount of time it will take for you to have at least 850 turns for your first build. This isn't an exact number from any specific calculation, but having less then 800 turns oftentimes will leave you vulnerable to getting killed.

Well, you may be thinking: with 800 turns I can turn up and get to about 25k thugs. Yes, you can, but the best way to build is to steal hoes first. If you've stolen a good amount of hoes (which for a first build the term “good amount” is dependant on, and directly proportional to, the amount of hoes in the game and the amount of hoes that are available), building with less then 700 turns will put you in a bad position. A huge portion of this game is about ratios: thug:hoe ratio to stay alive, thug:ride ratio for drive bys, crack:hoes ratio to keep hoes happy, etc. You may have stolen 6k hoes for your first build - which is decent - but with less than 700 turns and you will be susceptible to ending up with a bad thug-to-hoe ratio because of the fact that you have to purchase supplies for the first time. A while back when I first started playing 10 thugs were enough to protect 1 hoe: ex. Having 60k thugs and 6k hoes was sufficient enough to stay alive. Things have changed a bit and although there is no exact amount that you need to have (as things are bound to continue changing) a safe rule of thumb is to look at your neighbors. If they all have 100k thugs to protect 6k hoes and you have 9k hoes with the same amount of thugs, chances are that you will stick out a bit. You're not always going to stick out, but it is definitely enough for you to become someone's target. At least if you have more turns you can decrease your chances of being killed. Having at least 800-850 is usually the way to go...it'll give you enough turns to protect your hoes and stock a good amount of supplies.

Performing your first build:

First off, to be successful in this game you need speed. Generally, first builds are most successful around the first time you get max turns (and usually a little bit after this point). Reason being is that those who bought extra turns (and pimp well) are attempting their first drops at this time. Also, many more people are building and creating more hoes as they use up their turns (good thing you are near max turns at this point, huh?). Scan the rankings page to see if pimps in other cities have a good amount of hoes. Don't be afraid to move to another city just to get a few bitches. Just be quick about figuring out how much crack to send and constantly look at the rankings for good opportunities. Someone may die in a matter of seconds so you have to be aware of what's going on. You can get attacked any second for YOUR hoes so be aware. Because of this you will learn that in this game the refresh button is your friend. With any build you must realize that everyone is also being aware of the rankings. It is all about predator and prey. At times you have to travel from city to city to avoid trouble. Also, when you are done with your build those above you within the same city may be anticipating you turning big. You have to assume that these people are already set up to gank you so to keep it safe be sure to turn up in a different city and buy quickly.

One common mistake that newcomers make is thinking that having multiple windows may get them banned. It's quite the opposite: the only way you really flourish as a pimp is to use multiple windows (remember: multiple ACCOUNTS = BAN, multiple windows = SPEED). You can be using one window to scan the rankings while using one to buy and sell supplies & thugs. You might also have a third window open to travel. You can have as many windows open as you want, but just don't let it work against you. At times some have had too many windows open to be able to keep track of and if you aren't accustomed to this it can actually make you slower.

Another common mistake that people newcomers make is that they get discouraged when they lose hoes that they stole/produced. Also, they think that it's not worth the effort to steal hoes when they can just turn 8s all the way up. It's all part of the game, and stealing hoes will always get you at least twice as high as just turning 8s. Think about it this way: to get 5k hoes you have to turn about 350 turns in 8s, but to get 5k hoes by stealing only takes about 50 turns in 8s to get crack and then about 5 attacks out. So, in less then 1/3 of the amount of turns you have the same amount of hoes. Now you have 5k hoes and about 920 turns to turn up with instead of 5k hoes and 650 turns. Now you might be thinking: yeah, but at least I took the safe road by turning 8s. Well, no...not really. When someone sees a pimp constantly turning 8s, you become a sitting duck. A) They are just waiting for you to make enough hoes for them to steal; and B) those above you know that once you get a certain amount of hoes you will turn up...so they are waiting to gank you.

What is this “gank” you speak of and how do I get good at it?...
